Curtis Laboratory Permadoc position

University of Auckland

The Curtis Lab is focused on understanding the early brain changes that occur in neurodegenerative diseases and has an active interest in Parkinson’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, and early brain changes in dementias in general. The lab is broadly based with expertise in human neuroanatomy, neuropharmacology, drug discovery and molecular biology.

There is an opportunity available for a post-doctoral fellow to work across a range of projects with the aim of accelerating outcomes for projects across the lab. In addition, there would be at least one project that the successful candidate would have as their own project. The successful candidate would take responsibility for being the in-house expert on a range of techniques and would be responsible for training other scientists in the lab and also ensuring that when a project ends or a staff member leaves, that loss of expertise is minimised. The position is what is often referred to as a staff scientist or PermaDoc.

The role is available for a three-year period in the first instance and expressions of interest should be sent to m.curtis@auckland.ac.nz by November 21st. You can also contact Maurice if you would like to have an informal discussion about this role.

Neurodegenerative and Lysosomal Laboratory
MSc opportunity

University of Otago

The Neurodegenerative and Lysosomal Disease Laboratory is interested in the molecular and cellular basis of neurodegenerative disease, in particular how lysosome dysfunction influences disease development.

We have a research project, ‘Charting new neuronal survival pathways in Parkinson’s disease’, available for a prospective MSc student starting in 2023.

For further information on the project and application, please contact Dr. Indranil Basak (indranil.basak@otago.ac.nz) or A/Prof. Stephanie Hughes (stephanie.hughes@otago.ac.nz).
