Our speaker for this session is Associate Professor Bronwyn Kivell, from the School of Biological Sciences, Victoria University of Wellington.

She is a behavioural and cellular neuroscientist with research interests that include developing anti-addiction pharmacotherapies, non-addictive pain medications, and evaluating novel remyelination drugs for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating diseases.

Bronwyn is also a founding scientist of a new biotech startup, Rekover Therapeutics Ltd. Rekover aims to conduct clinical trials for a repurposed Kappa opioid receptor agonist, nalfurafine. Current research focusses on minimising symptoms or slowing the progress of the disease; if successful, this research will be a huge step forward for MS sufferers.
